Marx Café – AC Montgomery – Best Post Match Bar
AC Montgomery soccer club was founded in 1988 in Montgomery County, MD and immediately began winning numerous championships at the Germantown Soccerplex.
In the early 2000s, several squad members took residence in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood and made Marx Cafe their home away from the pitch. Marx Café founder, Haris, was a strong defender, well-schooled in the total football of his beloved Ajax to contribute on both ends of the pitch. Through Haris and Rick’s friendship, AC Montgomery officially began representing Marx Cafe!
The next 20 years brought more trophies, most notably winning the Farewell to RFK tournament on the turf of RFK, and saw AC Montgomery join the DC Premier League as a founding member. While the club’s kits have evolved thanks to an amazing collaboration with Icarus Football, the club’s shirts always represent Marx Cafe on the shirt to return the embrace and support of the bar’s long- time patrons and the greater Mount Pleasant community.
Over the years, Marx Cafe has remained the place where the squad goes after every match. Win, lose, draw – we always Marx! The squad particularly enjoys Thursday night karaoke after the typical small sided mid-week match. Marx Cafe’s unique atmosphere and long standing relationship with the club was formally recognized as the “Best Post Match Bar” by Icarus Football’s global competition in 2023.
Beyond the pitch, Marx Café has served as a gathering spot to celebrate, commiserate, and be around each other. We’ve even seen some next of kin enjoy Sprites and Shirely Temples at Marx Café!
